Understanding Energy Healing: Myths, Mind-Body Connection, and Real Benefits
My name is Torrie with Spiral Quest Healing, and I want to take a moment to clear up a few common myths about energy healing from my perspective and how I work within my practice. These are questions and assumptions I hear often, and they are things that early on in my own journey actually made me hesitant to explore energy work more deeply.
The first myth I want to dispel is the idea that energy healing is magical, mystical, or woo-woo. For a long time, that framing actually pushed me away from certain practitioners. It felt disconnected from my personal beliefs at the time, and honestly, it made me nervous to open myself up to something that felt vague or overly spiritual without grounding. While I do tap into the spiritual in a general sense, I do not push anything that would be contradictory to any belief system.
My approach to energy healing is rooted in neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to rewire itself, and most people are familiar with this concept when it comes to learning new skills. What’s less talked about is how powerful this process can be for mental and emotional health. When we intentionally calm the nervous system and bring the body into a relaxed state, the brain becomes more receptive to forming new neural pathways. In that space, feeding the nervous system positive input can help shift long-standing patterns toward more supportive ones.
When the nervous system settles, something else happens as well. You become more connected to your own intuition and subconscious awareness. That’s often where limiting beliefs, trapped emotions, and long-held patterns live. My role is not to fix you or override your experience, but to help you reach a level of relaxation where your brain and body can begin untangling what is ready to be released. The healing comes through your own capacity, not through me. I am not psychic or superhuman. I am simply someone willing to hold space and create an environment that supports that process.
The second myth I want to address is the idea that energy healing is a cure. It is not. I know there are practitioners who claim they can cure diseases through energy work alone, but that is not something I believe or practice. If you need medical care, I fully support you receiving medical care. Energy healing is not meant to replace doctors or treatment plans.
What energy work can do is help lower stress levels and support the body’s natural ability to heal. There is growing research around the connection between chronic stress, unresolved emotions, and physical illness. If you’ve read The Body Keeps the Score, this mind-body connection is explained clearly. When emotions remain unprocessed, they can eventually manifest physically. If I can help someone release trapped emotions and reduce nervous system overload, that can create an internal environment where healing is more accessible. It is a supportive approach, not a replacement. In my view, it’s a both-and relationship, not an either-or.
The final myth I want to clear up is the belief that I am the one doing the work. I’m not. I help open the door, but you walk through it. My goal is to help you relax, feel safe, and access what your subconscious is ready to bring forward. Especially in my integration and release work, I help illuminate patterns or themes that want your attention. But the real work happens after you leave my office.
I send clients home with reflection prompts, journaling exercises, and follow-up support. You are the one who takes the insights and applies them. You explore why certain things surfaced and what needs to change to keep those releases integrated so old patterns don’t simply reattach. I’m there to guide, support, and walk alongside you, but the transformation comes from your own willingness to engage.
These are just a few of the myths I wanted to dispel. If this approach to energy healing resonates with you and feels aligned with what you’re looking for, I would truly love to hear from you. Please click below to book your own session.
